Fun stuff: yearbookyourself.com!

Some days ago, I read an article on TechCrunch about a great site: yearbookyourself.com. It's probably the best waste of time you ever had, and it's a really good laugh! Just upload a photo of yourself (or of your friends) and the site morphs your picture - within some seconds you're in a yearbook of the 50ies, 60ies... I think what I liked most were the looks of the early 90ies, haha!

Here's what it did to me:

Monsters and Music

Happy Birthday to you... Happy Birthday to youuuuu! I made a "monster gift" for my dearest friend Sina - she turned 25 by the end of July. By the way, Sina and I know each other for almost 22 or 23 years now. We grew up together, went to the same kindergarden, school, shared the same interests, sports and hobbies... she's like my sister, although we don't see each other very often at the moment (which is really sad) and don't live in the same cities any more...  But  heavy seas don't pose a problem for a real sisterhood, do they? :)

At the beginning of July, when the time came to think about a birthday present, I asked her to make a wish and she told me that she still needed a little bag for her ipod. As I knew that Sina liked some of my monster creations I had made before, I decided to stitch some felt monster applications on the ipod bag. In the end, I completed the "monster birthday present" by making even a "monster card" (as you can see in the picture)...

And here are the results of the monster session:

Unfortunately, the parcel arrived a bit too late (because I was too stupid to remember the opening hours of the post office), but Sina liked the bag and the monsters... And so - all's well that ends well :)

Jimdo on tour

I don't know if you already read the blog post on jimdo.com? The whole Jimdo team went on a little "school trip" from August 1st until August 3rd. Here are some pictures from our trip, but I highly recommend to read the complete adventure report - enjoy :)

Simplicity Summer Top

Last Sunday (this "last Sunday's work"-thing appears to become routine...) I started (and almost finished) my first piece of clothing. YEAH! Actually, it should be a birthday present for a friend (since it's her birthday in a couple of days), but then it turned out differently... Now I have to think my birthday present plans over, but it still remains some time for me - no problem so far :)

Concerning the summer top - I'm now changing it a bit, correcting the seams and the border - and then my room mate will be happy with her new top :) My pattern was Simplicity 3882, as a fabric I chose a pretty IKEA cotton fabric.

Never lose your keys again... :)

I often had the problem that I couldn't find my keys in those black holes, a.k.a. bags... To avoid some of the "panic attacs" my assumed lost keys caused, I needed something that could help me finding my keys anywhere in my bags. Something big...

At least, my problem was solved by a gift my room mate gave to me: A little crotcheted strawberry that could also be used as a purse. Just lovely!!

Another key chain thing: Last weekend, I finished the three key chains I promised to sew for my co-worker Alina. Another three birthday presents, by the way :) I gave them to her yesterday and she was really taken by them...

Here some pictures (again worst quality, I'm sorry!):

Last Sunday's work - Tobacco bag

The perfect gift for people who like to roll their cigarettes: a tobacco bag! This handy bag does not only look stylish - it also prevents the smokers handbag or backpack from being full of tobacco crumbs :)

I made this one last Sunday:

Material | Facts | Figures :)

  • Fabrics: two different cotton fabrics (I ordered the pink one at Frau Tulpe's Online Shop - highly recommended! :) )
  • Size (closed): 19cm x 8.5cm (7.5 x 3.3 inches)
  • Size (opened): 19cm x 23cm (7.5 x 9.1 inches)
  • Very cute vintage button
  • 61cm (24") string to close or rather to tie up the bag

So, if you need a quick gift for one of your smoking friends... feel free to ask :)

Time goes by...

...and still no news. There's only little time left at the moment, so I hope it'll be a bit rainy on the weekend. Ok, maybe I should not wish for rain, but if the sun is shining I know exactly that I'll spend my weekend in the sun, watching football, hanging out with my friends... Not too bad... ;)

In the meantime I ordered some Simplicity patterns for my next projects (although the first dress is not finished at all, hmmm...) - but I saw some really cool creations made by Burdastyle members and I could not resist when I found the patterns:

What else..? There's some more stuff to do:

  • 3 more birthday present orders for one of my co-workers
  • cell phone bag for my room mate
  • still my dress. Black-blue-grey... Aaaaah!

Enough for the moment, I guess ;)

Urgent Birthday presents..

Last week, my co-worker Janina asked me to sew a little bag as a birthday present for her sister. That's why I had to postpone the work on my dress a bit.

After a long night out, Janina and I met last Saturday to buy some fabrics for her sister's bag and found a beautiful red plaid fabric with a tiny nice flower print.

Here are some pictures of the finished bag (by the way, Janina seemed to like it - she ordered a second bag for one of her girlfriends...):

Black Yellow and White?

A little history of shopping frustration

Ok... Seems to be impossible to get a yellow cotton jersey in Hamburg.

And here are the results...

The result of my frustrating shopping trip was that I had to choose another combination of colors.. Instead of Black-Yellow-White: Black-Blue-Grey! I'm fine with this one, too, but the white-yellow-black combination would have been better.

But I've done enogh talking... let the games begin ;)

And finally...

...they arrived! The ordered magazines are here! Actually, they arrived some days ago, but unfortunately I had no time yet to have a closer look. But today, I'm going to start..

First, I have to say that I was really enthusiastic when I ran over the pages of the magazines - I found many patterns I'm going to try out. Especially the dresses are great! Since this is my first attempt to sew some clothing, I hope I won't give up too fast :)

The dress I would like to start with is this beautiful black-yellow-white one. It has a very nice collar with four tiny buttons.. So, I just made my shopping list and will go to the city in the next hour to get prepared to start off.

Hope I won't fail... I rather wanted to upload some pictures of the other dresses in the Fast Fashion magazine I really liked, but I'm afraid my stupid camera is sort of broken. Anyway, the next "project" (after the black-yellow-white dress is finished successfully) will be a sporty dress with a hood. In the magazine, it's green, but I think I'm going to give it a grey sweatshirt fabric instead of the featured polyester fabric. But one by one...

So, let's see where I left my shopping list... and then I'm off. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Little monsters

I just wanted to introduce you to some friends of mine :) Some little creatures I made some time ago...

Those little friends are perfect as gifts. They are made really fast and they always put a smile on the peoples' faces when the wrapping paper is ripped off. Unfortunately, I did not take a picture of every monster I made, otherwise I could show you a little monster army right now. But here are at least three of them, two key chain monsters and a monster bunny that is now sitting decoratively in my colleague Nadja's living room...

Nintendo DS bag

A while ago, a friend of mine asked me to sew a wrapping for his Nintendo DS. He chose one of my favorite fabrics - with yellow mushrooms and tiny blue squirrels - and that was the result. I think he really liked it...

Starting off...

...is not too easy, I guess. But I'm willing to take the risk =) My blog will (hopefully) document my first attempts to sew some cloths. Previously, I have been creating little things like bags, accessories, childrens' stuff, toys etc.

Today, I ordered two pattern magazines and can't wait to have them here: May edition of the Dutch magazine Knipmode and the summer edition of FastFashion, which is also a Dutch magazine. I don't speak Dutch, but I read a review of a German woman who also bought those magazines and who gave the advice to read out loud the instructions. Then it should be easy to understand everything. We'll see...

What else?

I just fell in love... with Built by Wendy! The designs are awsome, and I think I'll order some of her patterns as well. But first, I'll try to create some of those Dutch dresses. =)
